Color Me Up by Mark Anthony Given

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. -Seneca (5 BC – 65 AD)
THE FIRST CASINO I walked into was in Biloxi, Mississippi in the late fall of 1994, and having walked into every blackjack den on the Mississippi Gulf Coast I finally found exactly what I was looking for. But I had to get my feet wet before spanking some real ass, at the biggest and best casino that had two locations, The Biloxi Grand and the Gulfport Grand fifteen miles down the beautifully manicured man made crystal white sandy beach. On the second floor separating the tables from the machines was a circular eight person Video Blackjack starting at $1.00. They were the only ones on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and God as my Witness, three weeks after I turned this sore loser into my personal ATM, they were taking out of the casinos and never came back

IT TOOK ME ten thousand hours to learn how to play Blackjack like a human computer, without the emotions.    Because any one hand, any series of hands does not matter.  I only have to win one of every three hands dealt, against a casino system that has a built in near 50% chance of success, is mathematically unstoppable.
ANOTHER thousand hours to learn the betting system it took nearly fourteen months practicing every day, all day.  I immediately saw arbitration applications for this simple mathematical formula.  Arbitrage is buying and selling world currencies and some countries are so consistent they have minor fluctuations that can be capitalized with this betting formula, I learned while in federal prison in the 1980's for federal bank fraud.  I wrote about it in "I'm Going to Turn a Toothpick into a Lumber Yard,"  the links below.
FREE WRITING paper and little black government pens, I started playing two hands at a time writing right down the center of the page of 26 lines: W or L.  After I had a stack of these I started taping them together and hanging them floor to ceiling in my cell and stare at them for hours and hours and discovered a pattern.  Patterns of W or L six or seven straight every sixty to a hundred hands, even playing near perfect.

Basic Strategy from Beat the Dealer

Gambling is the child of avarice, the brother of iniquity, and the father of mischief. -George Washington

PERFECT PLAYING is knowing when to Hit on a "Soft Seventeen."  That's an Ace and a Six card; Depending on the Dealer's Up card, say a face card, you Hit as opposed to Doubling you bet against the Dealer's face card showing a 3 or 4 or 5 or 6.  Each game has a rule about whether the dealer must hit or stand on soft 17, which is generally printed on the table surface. The variation where the dealer must hit soft 17 is abbreviated "H17" in blackjack literature, with "S17" used for the stand-on-soft-17 variation. Substituting an "H17" rule with an "S17" rule in a game benefits the player, decreasing the house edge by about 0.2%.High cards are good for the casino, Low cards are good for the bettor.  There may be a dozen minor variations in play that determine your chance of success....

WORKS LIKE A CHARM on Six decks and that's what I practiced with but, after about seven or eight months it occurred to me that like when I was a kid before going to my little league baseball games I would practice a few days at home with a softball and when I got to the game, the baseball felt like I could throw it for miles.  I began practicing exclusively (Lots of shuffling) on a single deck because that is where the big boys played....

AFTER READING "Beat the Dealer," the "MIT Math Team," and every book I could get my hands on playing Blackjack and or Gambling, I decided to take another approach.  Instead of bum rushing them and taking down thirty thousand a night and disappearing; I was going to use this betting formula I coined,  "#THEKOSKOBEATDOWNSYSTEM", to pick up seven or eight-

hundred dollars a couple times a month, just get what I needed and leave the rest.
WITH THE PATIENCE of Job I would try and walk into every Blackjack Room on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Bellagio, Hard Rock Casino, and Cafe, etc., there were twelve at one time ranging from plush to beer stains and cigarette burns on the table.  It's just the way I am:  I don't get in no hurry, I blend in as best I can, and like everything I do, I got to "Feel it."  Just like when I walked into seventy-five banks and swindled them out of two point five million dollars in eighteen months; when I walk in the front door if any one of my million and one "Bells and Whistles" start to go off, and any bad vibe whatsoever, I won't gamble.  They are open twenty-four hours a day.....what's your hurry?  pick your spot:  this is serious business, real money, and it "Ain't a give me."  It can be a grind or gravy.....

                                      To be continued....

My Appointment With the Devil by Mark Anthony Given

We may not pay Satan reverence, for that would be indiscreet,  but we can at least respect his talents. -Mark Twain
MID-THIRTIES I found myself alone at a lonely interstate rest area in Florida in the middle of the night, having driven from  New Orleans for the last several days, I went from rest area to rest area withdrawing from Methadone, starving but couldn't eat.  Dying of thirst, but couldn't drink.  Throwing up, diarrhea, high temperature and worst of all, I couldn't sleep.  Beg for sleep for three or four hours and sleep for ten minutes and start all over again.  I was at probably the lowest point of my life.  And I still had an appointment with the devil.    And he's going to be here in a minute.....          THE DEVIL IS REAL.  I met him.  Twice.  I know you're not going to believe this but I don't care.  I ain't got a reason to lie to y…

Circle Jerk City by Mark Anthony Given

My father carries around the picture of the kid who came with his wallet. -Rodney Dangerfield

I BUSTED OUT OF every juvenile home they placed me in when I was a kid.  Industry, The New York State School for Boys, fifteen miles south of Rochester, New York where my parents were, was the largest juvenile reformatory in the Empire State. I thought of this escape hundreds of times throughout the years as the seminal moment I became bad. Not real bad mind you, but bad none the less. Still thinking I was Matt Helm or James Bond, I plotted my daring escape from the moment they brought me there from a local juvenile detention facility which I also broke out of. To be honest with you I thought it was my duty to escape. I don’t know really why like I said I was a bad kid. Rolling thru the beautiful upstate New York countryside in the back of state car in the early morning hours to the famous “Industry,” the place you didn’t want to be, I considered for a few minutes the possibilit…

ONE RAT AT A TIME by Mark Anthony Given

Information is the currency of democracy. — Thomas Jefferson
THE FEDERAL REPORTER’S come out every few weeks in paperback. The latest United States Court of Appeals decisions, and the Federal Supplement’s containing every case worthy of publication from the lower or United States District Court’s. This is where the Rubber Meets the Road when determining WHO’S A RAT or who isn’t. If you are named in a Case as a Confidential Informant or Cooperating Witness; it’s written in stone. When I was the Head of the Inmate Law Library at the Federal Correctional Facility at Seagoville, Texas, just minutes from Dallas-Ft. Worth, in the early 1990’s, we had a file called “The Cut Case’s.” Guy’s would literally run from the Bus that brought them there, many Self-Surrender, to the Inmate Law Library and surgically cut their Cases right out of the Law Books. Or make the book disappear.              NEARLY ALL the cases brought to me involved Ra…
