Information is the currency of democracy.— Thomas Jefferson ____________________________ MY FIRST WEEK ON THE JOB I encountered the Cut Case File. I was the Head Law Clerk at the Federal Correctional Facility at Seagoville, Texas doing a five year sentence for bank fraud. I was back on a Parole Violation for a Dirty UA for smoking Pot.  While out on Parole for nearly two years I had obtained a Legal Administrative Assistant, AAS, or Associate of Applied Science or, Paralegal Degree.  Right off the bus I went to the Director of Education…

ONE RAT AT A TIME by Mark Anthony Given

Information is the currency of democracy. — Thomas Jefferson
THE FEDERAL REPORTER’S come out every few weeks in paperback. The latest United States Court of Appeals decisions, and the Federal Supplement’s containing every case worthy of publication from the lower or United States District Court’s. This is where the Rubber Meets the Road when determining WHO’S A RAT or who isn’t. If you are named in a Case as a Confidential Informant or Cooperating Witness; it’s written in stone. When I was the Head of the Inmate Law Library at the Federal Correctional Facility at Seagoville, Texas, just minutes from Dallas-Ft. Worth, in the early 1990’s, we had a file called “The Cut Case’s.” Guy’s would literally run from the Bus that brought them there, many Self-Surrender, to the Inmate Law Library and surgically cut their Cases right out of the Law Books. Or make the book disappear.              NEARLY ALL the cases brought to me involved Ra…

I Walked The Track In Federal Prison by Mark Anthony Given

The worst crime is faking it.-Kurt Cobain ______________________________            I WALKED THE TRACK for ten months in one hundred degrees heat at the Federal Correctional Facility, at Texarkana, Texas with a 19-year-old All American looking kid from California, who had a bank fraud conviction like me, and I was dying to know what he did and how he did it.Because by my own experience I knew that the government knew exactly what I did when I spanked their ass seemingly at Will, for a couple million dollars, but they didn’t know how I did it, which turned out to be the fly in the ointment when it came time to negotiate a Plea Agreement. That and the fact I didn't have any co-defendants to get on the "Bus" before I did: First one on the "Bus" gets the best seat the US Attorneys were fond of saying...

THE GIRL who showed me The Dope Feign Shuffle or known in Banking as a Split Deposit,in New Orleans, was already doing state time for her own offenses. I negotiated a …

The Real Con Air by Mark Anthony Given

Always eyes watching you and the voice enveloping you.
Asleep or awake, indoors or out of doors, in the bath or bed- no escape.
Nothing was your own except the fewcubic centimeters in your skull.
George Orwell, 1984

THE BIG WHITE GOVERNMENT VAN picked me up at four in the morning with five or six other Lucky bastards.  You could have felt Lucky going to Death Row from that place.  Drove us to Talladega FCI probably five hours due north from Mobile.  Maybe a week there, then driven to the Airport in an obvious government prison bus, looks like a normal Greyhound bus except the windows have strips of metal and cages over the windows. Just like in the movies, taken to a isolated part of a regular large airport, surround the bus and a huge commercial airliner with at least a dozen SWAT and US Marshal Transport Squad, and the infamous United States Marshal’s Con-Air who all roll out of bed every day as close …

I Almost Got Murdered By A Homicidal Maniac by Mark Anthony Given

A man's got to take a lot of punishment to write a really funny book.
-Ernest Hemingway

THE TERREBONNE PARISH PRISON ain’t no joke. I thought I was in the bowels of Bolivia or any place in South America where everything is always sweating from humidity and dank and dark and scary. Six metal bunks chained to riveted walls like in a boiler room, where up to twenty modern day dregs of society, mostly blacks, were held. Day and night the door swung open continuously admitting another miscreant, who nearly all exclaimed,“ Are you kidding me? There’s no room!” After some large Black guy snatched me off the top rack in the middle of the night and told he wasn’t sleeping on the damn floor, I found my way under the bottom bunk in the back and tried to disappear in the awful place. Maybe twelve feet by twenty feet with a low metal ceiling with rows of rivets joined the metal and looked like you were in a ship or underground somewhere. Twenty or thirty years of grime, the shower was…
